NEW, MILLER, LINEBACK, SAMPLE, WARRUM

Shirley McKim <mcsix@netpointe.com> on Sat, 05 Dec 1998

I have just recently learned that my 4th great-grandfather, John Foster New, died in Hancock County, Indiana and is buried there in Gilboa Cemetery at Cleveland.

I am wondering if the following persons (listed on the 1860 census as living in Hancock County) are his grandchildren and to which son they belong? If, indeed, they are siblings.

William New aged 38 md Margaret Sample 5/16/1844 in Hancock Co.
Daniel J New aged 34 md Elizabeth Miller 11/22/1848 in Hancock Co.
Mary (New) Lineback aged 44 b KY md Jonathan Lineback 6/4/1836 in Hancock Co.
Elizabeth (New) Miller aged 35 md Ambrose (Ambers) Miller 7/11/1844 in Hancock Co.
And, Sarah (New) Warrum aged 45 b KY md James Warrum 2/15/1838 in Hancock Co.

I notice that a son Daniel married in Hancock on 6/4/1841 (this is a second wife), so know he was in the county. A son James was living in the county in 1860 as well. Am wondering if the above are siblings and children of Daniel and his first wife, Elizabeth Ring. Anyone researching this family? I am more than willing to share info -- I have a good deal of information on the branches that traveled on to Boone Co., Indiana.

Thanks!!

Please email me if you'd like to share info!!

My maternal grandmother was a Hiday from Hancock County. Her brother Ernest was married to Nannie Hiday. All Hidays are descended from Dr. Jacob Hiday who came to U.S. from Germany (so I have been told). There were five brothers. By the way, Ingalls, Indiana, is in Madison County, not Hancock. The Wynne Cemetery where several of the Hidays are buried is in Hancock County. I know it well. Would be happy to share any information I have with you.

RASH

in response to message posted by NANA SMITH on Mon, 19 Oct 1998

This doesn't answer your question, but I hope it might be helpful. Abel Rash was in the 1850 census (page 176) for Brown Township, Hancock County. There were 5 Rash families in Green Township, just to the west. I believe that some or all of the Rash families came to Hancock County about 1833 from Wilkes or Yadkin County, North Carolina, in the company of my ancestors, the James Cass family, and two other Cass families (Aaron and William). In the 1860 census for Brown Township I could only find Thomas Rash. Good luck with your search.
